On being a designer

08.24.09 Posted in The Designers Plate by Karl Camenzuli

Ask the average Joe the meaning of design and the first thing that comes up is something visual, yet the design process starts before the designer even puts pen to paper. Design is about informed creative choices and intentions, great design is never accidental. When you hear people getting excited over something that just works, you see the joy in the persons face in being a part of the experience.

This ease of use is the result of the designers decisions. Our job as designers is to educate the client into this process rather than presenting specific parts but justifying how we took the decisions we did.

“Don’t make something unless it is both necessary and useful; but if it is both necessary and useful, don’t hesitate to make it beautiful.” – Design House Stockholm
