The four factors of positivity for your company

09.25.09 Posted in User Experance by Karl Camenzuli

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is a chap that produced a study across multiple cultures to piece together the core of happiness and found that four elements were consistent in moving people’s feelings from unhappy to happy. The following is the conclusion:

  1. Autonomy
  2. Competence
  3. Relatedness
  4. Self-esteem

Autonomy refers to the level of control individuals feel over their surroundings. Competence is the feeling of accomplishment that arises when people are challenged and able to meet that challenge. Relatedness is how connected people feel with others. Self-esteem is how happy they are normally.

Autonomy, competence and relatedness are great places to start when discussing how a product or service can influence levels of happiness.  As a company owner you should be concentrating in creating an experience and service that delivers happiness and creates hype.

Facebook’s success is down to the way it handles relatedness. Good feelings about your company

As a website user experience designer I want to be focused on making users feel competent through intuitive simple interfaces and designs, building the happiness factor into your product and service creates hype and ownership leaving the user with a positive experience that can only reflect in your growth.

This is a very strong angle on communication. Its important to cater to clients in a wholistic structural method based on philosophy of the human condition. Feel it and be happy to succeed
