Everyday I drive from along the Birkirkara bypass and see a number of billboards sticking out from the side of the road behind trees. I can tell you that yesterday Tom Jones and Dell are being advertised, the details I can’t make out due to the placement of these boards, It’s a busy road and both boards are obstructed.
Traditional media has its place and for many is a very effective means of communication, what saddens me is that many companies are wasting money using it in the wrong way while social media is still being widely overlooked.
Maltese people are still terrified of the unfiltered message, well I’m sorry but consumers are embracing it and it’s only going to grow. As a company you now have the opportunity to tap into the pulse, become a part of the conversation. If people are criticizing your brand, you can correct it, if you are praised you can show your appreciation and if you see confusion you can inform. You are no longer at the mercy of the media as your only channel and the expense of big unmonitored advertising campaigns. All social media needs is your time
