The key to web success is to stop thinking about organizational information and start thinking of customer tasks.

Why do you think the Web is such a success?

The most important thing a webpage can do is be crystal clear about exactly what you can do on that webpage.

The best word to describe people when they are on the Web is “impatient.” They are particularly impatient when they arrive at your website for the first time. They are asking themselves the essential question: “Is this a website I can actually do something on quickly and easily or is it just marketing?”

Are there others like me out there, who are becoming more and more immune to false and deceptive advertising and marketing?

If something I use works in the way its promoted then I’ll be happy to share this information and product with friends. I’m willing to be loyal; but you’ve got to earn my loyalty. I believe I am part of a new generation of consumers. Think of us as intelligent strangers. We no longer trust most brands anymore because they don’t deserve our trust. We are the search, compare and verify’ crowd, and our numbers are growing.

Why do you think the Web is such a success? The Web reflects a shift to service and, more particularly, a shift to self-service. To succeed in self-service you need a genuine understanding of and relationship with your customer. And you must also strive to give them a fast, simple experience. With the Web, power has shifted to us the organization of intelligent strangers.

WE ARE THE WEB. The Web is the customer and the customer is the new organization.

The key to web success is to stop thinking about organizational information and start thinking of customer tasks.
