The four factors of positivity for your company

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is a chap that produced a study across multiple cultures to piece together the core of happiness and found that four elements were consistent in moving people’s feelings from unhappy to happy. The following is the conclusion:

  1. Autonomy
  2. Competence
  3. Relatedness
  4. Self-esteem

Autonomy refers to the level of control individuals feel over their surroundings. Competence is the feeling of accomplishment that arises when people are challenged and able to meet that challenge. Relatedness is how connected people feel with others. Self-esteem is how happy they are normally.

Quality of the customer experience

Being an online marketer I see a fair number of clients that have just spent time and money developing a website that looks pretty but is not delivering the content as and when the user needs it. Most sites play on the visual as an attempt to reduce content and excite with cleaver use of the technology. Sadly the truth of the matter is users are really not willing to sit through a couple of minutes of animation to get the information they wanted.

A few years back I pitched an idea to a cafe in Malta that’s situated in a very busy area booming with e-gaming companies and local businesses. The concept, ask people to subscribe to a daily email that sends them the varied specials of the day in order to wet the appetite and get the customers hooked.

We kept it simple for the first iteration taking into account that for the cafe owner to update this we had to look at minimizing the time spent away from the day to day running of the cafe.
